Limited library service for researchers

For academic employees and registered doctoral students of the faculty, we allow most of our holdings to be borrowed.

Please note the following points when borrowing media:

  • Please research the desired media in our catalogue
  • Write an e-mail with the loan request (if possible, from your employee account) to the library (
  • Please note your name, address according to your identity card and your telephone number in the e-mail. Employees of the University of Cologne please give your institute address.
  • After that please list the author, title and signature of all the books you want. A maximum of 3 books can be borrowed.
  • You will receive an appointment for picking up the media by email.
  • Please confirm the appointment by email. If you cannot keep the appointment, please ask for an alternative date.
  • Please make another appointment to return the books, (, as the institute is still closed to the public.
  • The loan period is two weeks but can be extended by email.
  • If the institute has an urgent need, the books can also be reclaimed before the regular loan period expires. Please be ready for this.

When collecting and returning the books, we ask you to adhere to the following rules:

  • Please wear mouth and nose protection when entering the library, as in all University buildings. Please come alone.
  • Only stay in the building as long as absolutely necessary.
  • Please always keep a distance of 1.5 meters from everyone.
  • Please note the general hygiene regulations.

Should you test positive for the corona virus within two weeks of visiting our library, please notify us immediately.

In accordance with CoronaSchVO NRW and the hygiene and infection protection regulations of the Rectorate, we are obliged to register your contact details. These will be destroyed after 4 weeks without further notice.

Moreover, the publications of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), access to Westlaw and a database on space law are available in the library. A further useful source for research in the field of air law is the website

A conventional card index contains all available volumes which have been published up to and including the year 2002. Volumes which have been published since 2003 can be found online via the Kölner Universitätsgesamtkatalog (KUG). We are striving to add older volumes as quickly as possible to the data pool of the KUG
